Sas Delzen

It’s named ‘Sas Delzen’ which means Black Bear in Chipewyan, my native language. I love Sas Delzen and my family has a lot of history interacting with them. When my mother was a child my family was living in the bush and Sas came to the window in the middle of the night and peeked in the widow at my uncle who was sleeping. My grandpa got out of bed and threw a shovel at them! History repeated itself this summer when Sas came to that same cabin and peeked inside that same window at my cousin who was sleeping expect my Grandma didn’t throw a shovel she just yelled at him. Sas loves the cabin and is always playing on the swing set in front of the cabin when we’re not around and scratching at the windows. I am thankful to Sas Delzen for not bothering us too much and I hope we don’t bother him too much either. Much can be learned from Sas Delzen about respect and peaceful cohabitation and based on what’s happening across Turtle Island I think we can learn a lot from Sas Delzens teachings.
