Det'ancho

It’s named Det’ancho which means Eagle in Chipewyan, my native language. I have always felt a very strong kinship with Det’ancho. The day that I was taking high school graduation photos in my backyard, they flew over me. Last month, while I was out on the land with my family Det’ancho flew over our boat as we travelled down the river and gifted me with a feather. Later that week when we left, Det’ancho was perched on the top of a tree right outside our cabin watching us pack up and stayed there until we left. Last week, Det’ancho visited me in a dream and in the dream they were the size of my house and landed next to me in my backyard. All of these experiences and many more have inspired me to make this piece to thank Det’ancho for watching over me and for always welcoming me back onto the land no matter how long I was gone.
