Det'an

It’s named Det’a which means Goose in Chipewyan, my native language. For me and my community Det’an has always symbolized the coming of better days. It meant summer was coming, school was ending, and big feasts with family. Because of this I was shocked when I went down south to university and discovered that the people on campus hated the local Det’an population. One of the most common complaints was “they act like they own the place” which surprised me because they DO own the place. Det’an has called Western University home way before Western University was created and will still be there way after it is gone. The thing I admire most about Det’an is their amazing sense of direction, something I wish to emulate as someone about to graduate.
