About the piece: It’s named Denìe (Dee-knee) which means moose in Chipewyan (my native language). Denìe is extremely important in Dene (Den-eh) culture which is shown is how similar the names are to each other. My home community is actually called Deninu K’ue which translates to ‘Moose Island Place’. Denìe is strong and self-assured, qualities that we wish to emulate as Dene people.
